Ghanaian Schools Need Real Support!

Dear Friends,

This is a photo I recently took at the Regional Model Junior High School in Ho, Ghana, enrollment 1500.

It is of junior high computer science class, in a room no larger than

twelve by sixteen foot, into which are crammed 43 students, with some sitting on each other’s laps. In this classroom, there are three non-functioning desk top computers, and the teacher is lecturing from an outdated textbook that is at least twenty-five years old. Of which, there are presently three copies available for the sole use of the information technologies teacher.

This is a simply unacceptable condition of deprivation that we must respond to. Our NGO, Ghana Beyond Subsistence (GBS) will spare no effort to convince you of the emergency in these schools.

I hope this image and the context I’ve provided clearly demonstrates the dire need for improved computer classrooms with internet connectivity that GBS is working toward a sustainable remedy. Your help will make it possible to cover the costs of a transmission mast (for data) and allow eleven local schools in Ghana’s Volta Region to join the 21st century in terms of modern technology and pedagogy.

The children and their devoted teachers must have our help to learn and grow as scholars.

Please consider joining in providing the funding we need to cover the costs of upgrading computer classrooms and providing data transmission to the schools.
