GBS Teaching Partner Profiles

Elementary School Principal, Ho, Ghana
Doris Sabadou
Is an elementary school principal who I met at a teacher workshop on our first day in the area summer 2023 when she introduced herself to me in a way that clearly communicated her commitments to children and education.
I had the privilege of visiting with her several times and discovered a successful educator whose long term goal is to found and then direct her own school; and, I look forward to congratulating her soon on that achievement.

Principal Teacher, Ho Dome R.C. Primary School
Veronica Gedia
The first thing you notice about the leader of St. Cecil's Catholic School, now Home Dome Roman Catholic, is her smile. Veronica Gedia is the headmistress and principal of the elementary school. She has been an educator for more than four decades. Her passion is palpable. She welcomes the teachers from GBS with an open arms and door policy. My colleague, Edgar Singleton and myself, Zakiyyah Bergen, are American teachers traveling with the Ghana Beyond Subsistence program to create collaboration moving forward. Oftentimes Americans carry a bias about what happens in the educational system and the educators in Ghana. This woman dispels the myths because great things happen in the classrooms at this school.
Her passion for education dates back to 1983 when she graduated from E.P. Training College-Bimbilla. Her thirst for education did not stop there she would go on to complete graduate course work from the University of Cape Coast in 2007. She is a pro! She has taught all subjects in K-5. This educator taught at Methodist Primary for nine years, Ho six years, Bankoe for 12 years and has spent the last 22 years at EP. Veronica did all this while raising her family with her husband. All of Veronica Gedia’s children have pursued graduate coursework and completed college degree programs, with one daughter now completing her Doctorate program abroad.
Veronica’s school flourishes with Project Based Learning, deep dive learning and teaching. The teachers and students use their surroundings to construct knowledge and tackle real world problems and solutions for their community. They do not always have the resources they need, but they make tremendous use of the resources that they have.
